Now what? Our Role in Crisis Recovery

The Adventure Travel Trade Association is back at ITB Berlin with its popular AdventureConnect educational and networking gathering, taking place on Wednesday 6 March at the Green Stage in Hall 3.1 

It has been said that Travel and Tourism can be a tool for Sustainable Economic Development. It can value natural and cultural capital, create jobs and bring revenues that stay at the destination level. Does this also apply in times of crisis? In an era where it seems crisis is the name of the game: political unrest, natural disaster, climate change, health epidemics, and even in war, what role can the tourism sector play in supporting affected destinations to recover and build back sustained economic alternatives? How can destinations, companies and travelers play a key role in sustainable recovery?

Learn from experts with hands-on practical cases from around the world, showcasing how travel makes the world a better place for all of us. Brazil, Canada, Iceland and Nepal will be a few cases highlighted, followed by a discussion on how lessons from these places can be applied in the future to places like Ukraine. This discussion will include the following panelists:

• Hjortur Smarason - Partner, Chameleon Strategies
• Jaqueline Gil - International Marketing, Business and Sustainability Director, Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Board)

Following dynamic and informative discussions from our panelists, the AdventureConnect will transition to casual networking while enjoying beverages and light hors d’oeuvres, provided by this year’s destination partner - Brazil and industry partner - WeTravel.
