Pre-Adventure 1

ECUADOR  HIGHLANDS

Cotopaxi & Quito - 5 Days, 4 Nights

START LOCATION: Quito

Begin the day exploring the colonial city of Quito, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Experience Street Wisdom, a playful method that encourages a unique interaction with the city, providing insights for the days ahead. Visit key attractions like the Basilica del Voto Nacional and Plaza Grande, immersing in the vibrant atmosphere. After lunch, drive to Hacienda El Porvenir for relaxation and a self-guided hike.

Engage in the transformative Horse Connection program, allowing horses to mirror behaviors and guide participants towards self-discovery. Enjoy a traditional lunch. A local Chagra shares insights into horse handling, leading a 2-hour horse ride through the hacienda premises. Experience the essence of Hacienda El Porvenir's multigenerational commitment to culture, nature, and conservation.

After breakfast, drive to the trailhead for a 5-hour trek through the paramo, a unique ecosystem regulating the Amazon basin's water cycle. Bathe in the paramo and connect with nature. Reach Hacienda El Tambo for a warm drink and fireside relaxation. Learn about the chagra culture through music in the evening.

Participate in morning country life tasks. Trek around Chalupas Megacaldera, experiencing stunning scenery. Mountain bikes await at El Encañonado for a downhill ride to Santo Domingo lagoon. Enjoy the amenities at Hacienda El Porvenir, including the Jacuzzi, hot tub, and sweat lodge. Dinner and rest.

Explore Cotopaxi National Park, learn about Andean geology, and hike to the Cotopaxi Refuge. Drive to Limpiopungo Lake for a box lunch. Continue to Santa Rita Ecological Reserve for a hike through trails and waterfall visits. Return to Quito.

Pre-Adventure 2

AMAZON EXPEDITION

Coca, Napo River & Quito - 5 Days, 4 Nights

START LOCATION: Quito

At the Quito International Airport, a representative will welcome you and provide information about the journey. After a flight to El Coca, you will be transported to the lodge via a motorized canoe. The manager will greet you with drinks and an informative session.  around lunchtime and meeting your guide—who will accompany you throughout your journey—you will embark on your first forest excursion. After dinner, you'll venture into the jungle for your first night adventure, either snake-watching or canoeing among caimans in the lagoon.

Next day, you might start the day paddling canoes along streams of tannin-rich blackwater and lagoons, where lianas, orchids, bromeliads, and palm trees abound. There's always the possibility of spotting animals, from the tiny pygmy marmoset to the elusive ocelot or puma. Later, you could board the motorized canoe for a short ride along the Napo River to visit the Providencia de Yasuní community, learning about their jungle lifestyle, tasting their cooking techniques, and stopping along the way to see the parrots' clay lick.

You'll return to the lodge by late morning, in time for lunch at 1 pm. Between lunch and your afternoon adventure, you are free to enjoy the lodge, relax in sun chairs with a book on the Balsa, or cool off in the lagoon pool. Activities commence between 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM and often extend into the evening, as the nighttime chorus of insects and frogs begins. An afternoon excursion might involve navigating the pristine terra firme forest, where 150-foot ceibo trees tower above, and your guide points out the territory of the crested owl while calling out to howler monkeys. Next, you may ascend thirty-three meters (30 feet) for the Hanging Bridge walk, a 940-foot (275-meter) bridge through the treetops where you can spot dozens of animals and birds.

On the last day, you will continue with morning activities, such as exploring the jungle or enjoying the final hike. After breakfast, you will head to Coca by motorized canoe and receive assistance in the departure process.

Pre-Adventure 3

ECUADOR TREKKING

Insilivi, Chugchilan, Riobamba & Quito - 5 Days, 4 Nights

START LOCATION: Quito

The expedition begins with a day to explore Quito independently or opt for a guided tour at an extra cost. A meeting is scheduled at 18:00 in the hotel lobby for introductions and an overview of the upcoming days. The journey starts with a 3-hour drive through the volcanoes highway to Sigchos, the starting point of the famous Quilotoa loop hike. Day 1 involves a 5-hour hike, the easiest of the three days, providing an introduction to the altitude. The route includes a mix of dirt roads and narrow trails, mostly downhill, from Sigchos at 12,000 feet to Isinlivi at 11,000 feet. The day ends at Llullu Llama Lodge with a restful evening and a delicious dinner.

On the second day, the trek continues with hiking on dirt trails and narrow roads, offering stunning views of the Andes. Passing through villages like Isinlivi and Chugchilan, known for farming and cattle, participants witness the production of quinoa, potatoes, and corn. The journey includes a picnic at Toachi canyon and a climb up to Chugchilan, presenting a challenging yet rewarding experience. The day concludes with a drive to Riobamba for an overnight stay. The highlight is reaching the Quilotoa Volcano's summit, offering breathtaking 360-degree views and cultural significance to the indigenous people.
