The Peloponnese is arguably Greece's greatest larder. The cuisine is defined by the "liquid gold" of its world-renowned olive oil and the robust wines of Nemea and Mantineia. Freshness is paramount: wild greens (horta), succulent oranges from Laconia, and artisan cheeses like sfela take center stage. Signature dishes include gournopoula (slow-roasted piglet), savory vegetable pies with handmade phyllo, and seafood caught fresh in the Argolic Gulf. In February, you’ll find seasonal winter specialties like bean soup (fasolada) and the festive street foods of Carnival, often enjoyed with a glass of bold Agiorgitiko red wine or local tsipouro.

  • Sea Temperature: Around 19C (66F). It is refreshing (some might say "brisk"), but plenty of locals and brave travelers begin swimming during these weeks.

💡 Before You Leave

For most international travelers, a valid passport is required (Schengen Area rules apply). Greece is part of the European Union; therefore, EU citizens can enter with a national ID card. Ensure you check if you require a Schengen Visa based on your nationality. No specific health taxes (like the TSA) are required, but travelers are encouraged to have travel insurance. If you plan to drive the winding mountain roads, ensure you have an International Driving Permit if your license is from outside the EU.
