15.00 - 17.00 Owning the Nordic Future, by Chris Doyle

Nordic countries are home to some of our planet’s most treasured assets - remote wilderness, dramatic geographic and meteorologic phenomenon, unusual land and sea wildlife wonders, Northern Lights, progressive adventure sports, innovative experiences, silence, and diverse, indigenous and ancient culture and heritage. Nordic countries also are “ground zero” to some of our planet’s most pressing challenges  - declining wildlife populations, melting ice caps, climate change, encroachment of indigenous communities and so on.

With countless persistent threats facing the region, destinations within and along the Nordic boundaries must anticipate and plan for an ever-increasing numbers of travelers (volumes more than even the most recent burgeoning of travelers to the region) seeking to experience what this region has to offer before they disappear.

Building toward the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s (ATTA) “Go Big. Be Bold.” theme driving its 2016 Adventure Travel World Summit, attendees of the Nordic Gathering in Åre will work together in small groups to explore what regional movements under way to tackle future traveler trends, the challenges around them, and the work all seven Nordic destinations can do together to brace for, thoughtfully care for, and best manage the expected growth in tourism.

17.00 - 19.00 Relaxing after work time for those who are interested. 19.00 Bus transportation to Ullådalen where a snow cat will wait for us and take us a short distance to the Restaurant Buustamons Fjällgård, beautifully situated halfway up Åreskutan. 22.00 Bus transport back to the hotel. Day two, 12th of April: 06:30 Manchester Morning for the early birds. Why not go skiing before the slopes are actually open? We will have the skiing area to ourselves for a few hours before breakfast. Optional, of course, but we highly recommend it. 08:30 Bus transportation to Copperhill Mountain Lodge, where todays sessions will take place. 09.00 - 10.00 Keynote 2: Jon E. Krogh
