Where will AdventureELEVATE Europe 2026 take place?

CATALONIA – PYRENEES – VAL D’ARAN - VIELHA

AdventureELEVATE Europe 2026 will take place at the Palau d’Esports de Vielha, located in Vielha, Val d’Aran, Catalonia, with the collaboration of the Vielha e Mijaran Town Council. Val d’Aran is a small valley located in the northwest of Catalonia, in the heart of the Pyrenees between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, right on the border with France.

Although it covers only a surface area of 630 square kilometres, more than 30% of its territory is above 2,000 meters, whilst its capital, Vielha, sits at 900 metres above sea level.

Last year, the Val d’Aran was recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a certification which highlights its commitment to sustainable development and responsible tourism.

The valley offers countless opportunities for outdoor activities. Hiking, cycling, and skiing are among the most popular, with more than 600 km of marked hiking trails, 900km of cycling routes, and over 160km of ski slopes. Val d’Aran also boasts four entrances to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, the only national park in Catalonia, giving visitors direct access to one of the most breathtaking protected areas in the Pyrenees.

But Val d’Aran is much more than a nature destination. It is a land of culture, history, and identity. The Aranese language, official alongside Catalan and Spanish, reflects a unique heritage. The valley’s history sets it apart from the rest of Catalonia, as the only Atlantic valley in the Pyrenees.

The Val d’Aran’s distinctive geography and cultural richness makes it a truly unique destination, where natural beauty and tradition come together to create an authentic experience for visitors.

          Climate:
May in Val d’Aran brings a springlike atmosphere, with days that alternate between sunny intervals and the characteristically changeable weather of the Pyrenees. Meadows turn a vivid green, and the mountains gradually shed their remaining snow at lower elevations, though traces can still linger higher up. Temperatures are pleasantly mild during the day, but mornings and evenings remain cool, and brief showers or shifting cloud cover are not uncommon.

          Average temperatures (high / low): 19–22 °C (66–72 °F) / 8–12 °C (46–54 °F)
Average precipitation: 120–150 mm (rain) throughout the month, with occasional showers possible during these dates.

          Languages:
Val d’Aran, in the northwest of Catalonia, has three official languages: Aranese, Catalan, and Spanish.
Aranese, a variety of Occitan, is the native language of the region and is used in administration, education, signage, and local media.
Catalan and Spanish are also official and are used in daily life, education, and communication with the rest of Spain.
Thus, Val d’Aran is an example of linguistic coexistence, with Aranese serving as a central cultural symbol.

          3. A power strip (optional)
If you have many gadgets, bringing a small power strip can be useful—just connect it to your adapter.
