MEDIA APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

This application closes on 15 January 2023. Applications will be reviewed in January with final selections made in February 2023.

Thank you for your interest in applying to be considered to attend AdventureELEVATE 2023 as an Official Media Delegate.

AdventureELEVATE gives selected official media delegates the opportunity to discover new destinations, products, and stories through interactive workshops, inspiring plenary discussions, and networking opportunities focused around the evolving trends of the North American adventure travel market, with plenty of time for fresh air and adventure.

Immersive adventure activities on multi-day adventures and the Day of Adventure will give travel media the chance to discover Maine’s bold and spirited landscapes and the deeply-ingrained culture of land stewardship that guides Maine’s way of life.

In the interest of maintaining a healthy dynamic of diverse business interests in the final event delegation, there are a limited number of official media delegate spots at AdventureELEVATE. Selections will be made from the pool of applications received.

Schedule:

If selected for a hosted spot, the entire trip length will be eight days, plus travel time from your origin city. The event itself is 9-11 May (Day of Adventure on 9 May, conference 10-11 May) plus required participation in multi-day adventure (3 days + 3 nights) before or after the event (TBA when selections are made).

WHO SHOULD APPLY:

The ATTA and our hosts in Maine are seeking to host an approximate total of 20 official media delegates with a primarily North American audience. Only U.S. and Canada-based media should apply. Applications will be considered and reviewed with the destination partner, with the goal to have a variety of qualified media representing the markets listed above who specialize in adventure and sustainable travel stories, including:

  • Freelance Journalists with a proven record of placing articles in mainstream lifestyle outlets or verticals focusing on travel, outdoor adventure, fitness, culture, or environment/sustainability with national reach (print and digital).
  • Magazine, Newspaper, or Digital Staff Writers & Editors especially from mainstream lifestyle outlets and/or vertical outlets focusing on travel, outdoor adventure, culture, or environment/sustainability with national reach.
  • Travel Content Creators (Influencers/Bloggers) with evidence of regular, current editorial content (i.e. non-sponsored posts) related to adventure travel, outdoor adventure, culture, or environmental/sustainability issues with a large, dedicated, and engaged following interested in adventure travel-related content. (Please note we typically receive the most applications in this category. If applying as a partner/couple team please refer to the FAQs.)
  • Broadcast Journalists & Producers whose content is broadcast on TV or radio and is related to the adventure travel or outdoor industry (this event is not an ideal fit for strictly on-camera talent due to very limited filming opportunities).

Publishers, advertising sales representatives, personal or hobby bloggers, PR agency representatives, marketing agencies/content developers, and film/video producers are not eligible to apply as an official media delegate. Anyone with an interest in the North American adventure travel industry may pay to attend as a regular event delegate

Local Media

Opening session passes may be available for local television, radio, or newspaper representatives to access designated sessions during the event. Contact [email protected] to inquire.

ROLE & EXPECTATIONS IF YOUR APPLICATION IS SELECTED:

All official media delegates are expected to be “working media” meaning whether a freelance journalist, magazine editor, photojournalist, or professional content creator you will be actively looking for ways to cover the destination where the event takes place, the adventure travel industry, and attending delegate’s destinations and products.

In addition, all selected official media delegates are:

  • Required to attend relevant media-specific sessions during the event, designed to network with other delegates in facilitated and unfacilitated formats designed to connect traditional media with story ideas, and travel content creators with potential content partners.
  • Required to attend the FULL event (Multi-Day Adventure, Day of Adventure, and all conference days, no early departures).
  • Expected to be active on social media during the event and any related adventures, using your influence to spread the word about the ATTA and its members, the adventure travel industry, and the host destination. Event hashtags will be sent ahead of the event and you are expected to use the proper tags to make event publicity tracking possible.

Hosted official media delegates receive: complimentary event registration, single accommodations during the event, economy round-trip air, ground transfers, and a multi-day adventure with a local tour operator. Hosted media are required to participate in a multi-day adventure and a Day of Adventure, and are expected to be researching the experience for potential story coverage, and active on social media using the assigned hashtags. The ATTA and our hosts will expect resulting publications, and track all media results from our events.

ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS:

  • Hosted media selections will be made from the pool of applications received.
  • All applications will be considered, reviewed, and selected with the destination partner.
  • After initial evaluation, criteria used in the final hosted curation and selection includes:
    - Representation from the specific countries listed above (limited per country in the final number of delegates).
    - A variety of representation in the final group of types of media (editors, freelancers, content creators, etc.), specialties/topics covered, narratives, and outlets.
    - A mix of individuals new to ATTA events with prior ATTA event media delegates.
  • Due to the large quantity of applications typically received for a limited number of spots, not all qualified applicants will be selected.
  • You will receive an email from the ATTA informing you of the status of your application.
  • More questions? See our Official Media at ATTA Events FAQs
