For our first AdventureELEVATE in the southeast corner of the United States, 280 adventure travel industry professionals from 37 countries gathered from 11-14 June, 2024 for the ninth annual AdventureELEVATE in the vibrant, and historical region of Asheville, North Carolina, against the backdrop of the ancient and awe-inspiring Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville boasts the French Broad River, one of the world's oldest rivers, boldly flowing north instead of south. Just as in the adventure business, embracing the flow is a paradox of being in harmony with nature and knowingly going against the grain. As we met among the mountains and rivers of Western North Carolina this year, artisans of adventure gathered to guide teams and communities forward, boldly flowing with creativity, inspiration, and determination.
Considered one of North America’s most important and practical professional adventure travel events, the AdventureELEVATE event invited participants to be inspired by thought leaders, partake in provocative breakout sessions and engage in fruitful networking opportunities. The Makers' Market invited delegates to explore locally made products, from handmade jewelry and apparel to grab-and-go sleep gear and cup cozies made from upcycled ropeware.
The area, brimming with boldly flowing rivers and towering mountains; small towns with big, diverse personalities and a vibrant art scene; entrepreneurs and artisians committed to land stewardship and innovation rooted in the rich local history, lent itself to an amazing Day of Adventure including options for whitewater rafting, foraging and food tasting, e-biking, hiking, forest bathing and an urban arts tour. This year’s event theme – BOLDLY FLOWING – was woven into this intimate event by way of thought-leading educational sessions and creative networking opportunities with plenty of time for fresh air and local exploration.
Shaped and nurtured by nature, Asheville speaks to the growing number of travelers seeking to authentically connect with the natural world and the local community. Asheville sets itself apart as a premiere adventure travel destination for its unique combination of stunning natural beauty, vibrant arts and music, and award-winning restaurants and breweries – all set against the backdrop of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. Its history as a haven for creatives, innovators and adventure-seekers continues to play out in exciting openings, making it a top bucket-list destination.

"Not only have I had beneficial follow-up communications with several of the people I met, but I also continue to reflect on all that I learned. I especially appreciated listening to the array of diverse voices and perspectives, the open and honest sharing particularly when grappling with challenging questions and scenarios, and the overall supportive and encouraging environment."
– Ann Becker, Travel with Ann Experiential
“The ATTA is unlike any other. Our experience is a community where we can make connections, ask questions and get answers. It’s a community where people are able to grow their own personal learning and be good stewards of responsible adventure tourism.”
– Matt Aubin, Global Rescue
“In the same way that adventure means something different to everyone, AdventureElevate is no cookie-cutter style event – it’s implemented in a way that keeps you coming back for more. I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the ATTA community!”
